Recently, I find that I am not so passionate in teaching my classes. I believe the main reason is that I start to dislike some of the parents here.
People in Cameron Highlands are very very rich. Among the students I have now, about 90% of them come from very wealthy family, probably millionaire or billionaire parents.
Trust me ! I didn’t believe too when I moved here 5 years ago. I thought they are only farmers, growing flowers and vegetables only. How silly !
As they are wealthy, they have this kind of mentality that “Money Is Very Big” ! There is air when they talk. Please forgive me if you are from Cameron Highlands, I am only being honest. I was born in Kuala Lumpur and I have never had such experience before.
A few examples here:
1. If they want me to arrange classes for their children, they will call me very often. A few times a day ! Sometimes, it goes to the extend that they will drop by without even calling me first. I hate this kind of parents as they do not respect my privacy at all. Well, maybe they do not know what privacy is!
2. If they no longer want to have their children taught by me, they will give me very very cold shoulder which is very awful and unpleasant. They will pretend that they do not see me on the street or in the shop. Some will just avoid talking to me!
Normally before they stop their children’s tuition here, there are symptoms like not answering my calls, canceling classes very often, cold and unfriendly tones that can get me prepared that they will stop the tuition here. Why can’t they just tell me nicely and keep on the friendship ?
3. They are famous for being passionate for a while and then indifferent after sometime. Let me give you a true instance here.
A few years ago, a man was cured by a doctor or Chinese Practitioner, many of them swarmed to get treatment there. I mean many of them actually chartered taxis or buses to go in groups.
After a while, nobody talked about that Chinese Practitioner anymore. Sometimes I wonder when I will get my turn for my classes. You know, all come and then all go.
4. Some of them don’t have the habit of calling me to inform me that their children are absent. I am annoyed that they don’t reply my messages on the handphone. How do I know if they have gotten my message or not ? As a result, I have to call each and everyone whenever I need to cancel classes.
Even worse is that they can promise you and then go missing ! It happened to my poor hubby. He opened a course for 2 mothers here on Thursday. They confirmed that they would come, but they didn’t !
At 11 o’clock in the morning , my hubby called them to check if they were on the way. One said she had forgotten as she had an extra yoga class. Gosh ! She is a yoga instructress ! She herself is a teacher and she did this to my hubby. She didn’t even call us to tell us that she couldn’t make it.
Another one is even worse. She didn’t answer the calls at all. I think it has become obvious that my hubby and I saw the symptoms, that is, the possibility of stopping tuition. They just don’t bother anymore.
Of course, there are a few parents who are very nice and responsible. They do not belong to the group above.
Thanks for reading. I seldom vent out my unhappiness on my blogs. Since this is my personal blog, I believe I will do very often. If not, I will die very soon !
Updated on 04.09.2011: Wow, it’s been more than 4 years since I wrote this post! ^.^
Am I still giving tuition in Cameron Highlands? Noop! I stopped all the classes there and moved somewhere else with hubby by the end of year 2007 or 2008. I think it’s 2007.
Since moving away, I have stopped being a home tutor. Instead, I have become a full time blogger and then affiliate marketer.
Until today, I still enjoy doing online work like setting up niche blogs, opening Facebook and Twitter accounts for the niche blogs, writing blog posts and product reviews, …
What about the possibility of going back to becoming a home tutor again? NOOOOOOO! Until now, I still have hatred towards giving tuition. @.@
